Creative Classes

The Bridgeport Art Center hosts several tenants that offer various classes. Please contact them directly for questions concerning class schedules and fees.

Chicago Ceramic Center

Try your hand at making something out of mud! Three hour Beginning Wheel Throwing classes are offered throughout the week. Participants will experience basic methods of centering clay, forming cylinder and bowl forms, trimming, and adding handles. Additionally, students will learn how to finish their pots using standard decorating and glazing techniques. No prior experience needed.

Course fee includes 25 pounds clay, tools, bisque firing and glaze firing. No additional costs. Open studios on Saturday are also included for currently enrolled students.

Wheel throwing classes starting at:

  • $315 for 8 weeks
  • $175 basic
  • $190 premium per month for independent study.
 
Advanced classes, figurative, and Hand-building and other classes are available on the web site.

Dancing Brush Creativity

Tamara Wasserman is a visual artist whose paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions nationally. Her art is in private collections world-wide. She describes her most recent works as resulting from the fusion of observation with emotion. She creates using oils, acrylics, oil pastels, and charcoal on canvas or wood.

Wasserman offers art classes and Dancing Brush creativity workshops for individuals

Yoga in Vogue

Yoga in Vogue is a small studio with a big heart that lives inside of The Bridgeport Art Center in the Bridgeport neighborhood of Chicago’s South Side. We came here to spread news: Self-Care and Self-Love is our Birthright. Yoga and Mediation is for every body and anyone. We are about Community and Joy.

DeePaola creates space that allows you to connect with yourself and the physical practice on a deeper level, aligning mind, body and spirit.

Classes starting at $120 for 4 hour sessions.

Jeffrey Hirst Fine Art Studio

Artists Jeffrey Hirst and Helen Dannelly teach encaustic painting, ink painting onto Yupo (synthetic watercolor paper) and printmaking workshops throughout the year at Bridgeport Art Center.

Independent studies are available as well for students wishing to pursue private instruction.

Chicago Maker Space

The Chicago Maker Space is a creators’ workplace born of the need for artists to continue their practice beyond post-secondary or institutional training. Founders Eli Merritt  and Sam Merritt have designed an open studio-style environment equipped with a metal and wood shop along with four private, 10′ x 10′ studio spaces available for rent. Centrally located at the Bridgeport Arts Center. (Enter on North side off of Racine Ave / 34th Place.
